For the Almond Cream Filling/Frosting:

Instructions

Preheat Oven: Preheat to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour an 8-inch round cake pan.

Make Batter: In a bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt. In another bowl, cream butter and sugar until light and fluffy. Beat in eggs one at a time, then add vanilla and almond extracts. Alternate adding flour mixture and buttermilk, mixing just until combined.

Bake: Pour batter into prepared pan and bake for 25–30 minutes, or until a toothpick comes out clean. Cool completely on a wire rack.

Make Almond Cream: Whip heavy cream with powdered sugar and almond extract until stiff peaks form.

Assemble: Slice cake horizontally into two layers. Spread half the almond cream on the bottom half. Add top layer and spread remaining cream on top. Sprinkle with toasted almonds.
