Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 2 cups granulated sugar
  • 4 large eggs
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1/2 tsp baking powder
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 1/2 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips
  • 1/2 cup crushed candy canes (plus more for topping)
  • 1/2 cup powdered sugar (for dusting)

Instructions

  • Preheat the Oven:
Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and line a 9×9-inch baking pan with parchment paper.
  • Prepare the Brownie Batter:
In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the melted butter and granulated sugar until smooth. Add the eggs, one at a time, followed by the vanilla extract. Stir until fully incorporated.
  • Add Dry Ingredients:
In a separate bowl, sift together the flour, cocoa powder, baking powder, and salt. Gradually add the dry ingredients into the wet mixture, stirring just until combined. Fold in the chocolate chips and crushed candy canes.
  • Bake the Brownies:
Pour the brownie batter into the prepared pan, spreading it out evenly. Bake for 25-30 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out with a few moist crumbs.
  • Cool and Finish:
Allow the brownies to cool completely in the pan. Once cooled, dust with powdered sugar and sprinkle additional crushed candy canes on top for extra festive flair.
  • Serve:
Cut into squares and serve at your next holiday gathering! Enjoy!

Notes

  • For a richer flavor, add a handful of white chocolate chips or swirl in a bit of peppermint extract for extra peppermint flavor.
  • The brownies will keep for up to 5 days in an airtight container.
