Ingredients
Scale
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- ½ cup Dutch process cocoa
- 1 teaspoon baking soda
- ½ teaspoon sea salt
- 3 large brown bananas (about 1 ½ cups mashed)
- ¼ cup unsalted butter (melted and cooled)
- ¼ cup canola, vegetable, or coconut oil
- ¾ cup packed light brown sugar
- 1 large egg (room temperature)
- 1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
- 1 cup semisweet chocolate chips
Instructions
- Preheat the Oven:
- Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease or line a 9×5-inch loaf pan with parchment paper.
- Mix Dry Ingredients:
- In a medium bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour, cocoa powder, baking soda, and sea salt. Set aside.
- Prepare the Wet Ingredients:
- In a large bowl, mash the brown bananas until smooth. Add the melted butter, oil, brown sugar, egg, and vanilla extract. Mix until well combined.
- Combine Wet and Dry Ingredients:
- Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, stirring just until combined. Be careful not to overmix.
- Add Chocolate Chips:
- Gently fold in the semisweet chocolate chips.
- Bake:
- Pour the batter into the prepared loaf pan and spread it out evenly. Bake in the preheated oven for 60-70 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center of the bread comes out clean or with just a few moist crumbs.
- Cool and Serve:
- Let the banana bread cool in the pan for 10 minutes before transferring it to a wire rack to cool completely. Slice and serve!
Notes
- To make the bread extra moist, ensure that the bananas are very ripe with brown spots on the peel. The riper the bananas, the sweeter the bread will be!
- For a slightly different texture, you can add a handful of chopped nuts (such as walnuts or pecans) along with the chocolate chips.
- Store leftover banana bread in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 3 days, or refrigerate for up to a week.
