Description

A decadent dessert that combines a moist chocolate cake with a rich peanut butter glaze and a creamy whipped topping. This indulgent treat is perfect for gatherings and special occasions.

Ingredients

Scale

For the Cake:

  • 1 box chocolate cake mix

  • 1 cup creamy peanut butter, melted

  • 1 can (14 oz) sweetened condensed milk

For the Topping:

  • 1 container (8 oz) whipped topping (such as Cool Whip), thawed

  • ½ cup peanut butter, melted

  • ¼ cup powdered sugar

  • ½ cup mini chocolate chips or chocolate shavings (optional for garnish)

Instructions

  • Prepare the chocolate cake mix according to the package instructions.

  • Pour the batter into a greased 9×13-inch baking dish and bake as directed.

  • Once the cake is fully baked, remove it from the oven and allow it to cool slightly.

  • Using the handle of a wooden spoon, poke holes all over the cake, spacing them about 1 inch apart.

  • Melt the peanut butter and mix it with the sweetened condensed milk.

  • Pour this mixture evenly over the top of the cake, allowing it to soak into the holes.

  • Let the cake cool completely.

  • In a medium bowl, fold the melted peanut butter into the thawed whipped topping until fully combined.

  • Add the powdered sugar and stir until smooth and creamy.

  • Spread the peanut butter whipped topping evenly over the cooled cake.

  • Sprinkle mini chocolate chips or chocolate shavings on top for garnish if desired.

  • Refrigerate the cake for at least 2 hours before serving to allow the flavors to meld together

Notes

Ensure that your eggs, milk, and butter are at room temperature before starting to make it easier for them to blend together and create a smoother cake batter.

When poking holes in the cake, use the end of a wooden spoon or a similar-sized tool to create even-sized holes. Space them about 2 inches apart to ensure the peanut butter filling is evenly distributed.

Overmixing the cake batter can lead to a tough, dense cake. Gently mix the ingredients together just until combined for a light and fluffy texture.

Oven temperatures can vary, so start checking your cake for doneness a few minutes before the recommended baking time. A toothpick inserted in the center should come out clean or with just a few crumbs attached.

Cool the cake completely before adding the top layers to prevent melting.

The cake may require an additional 5 minutes to bake if you’re using a ceramic baking dish
