Description

Chocolate Turtle Cake is a decadent dessert that combines the rich flavors of chocolate, caramel, and toasted pecans, inspired by the classic turtle candy. This cake is perfect for any special occasion or as a sweet indulgence after dinner. With a gooey caramel center, a layer of semisweet chocolate, and a crunchy pecan topping, this dessert will satisfy your sweet tooth and leave everyone asking for seconds. Serve it warm with a scoop of vanilla ice cream for the ultimate treat.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 bag (11 oz) caramels, unwrapped (about 36 caramels)

  • 1/2 cup evaporated milk (from a 12-oz can)

  • 1 cup chopped pecans

  • 1 cup semisweet chocolate chips

  • Caramel topping (optional, for drizzle)

  • Chopped pecans (optional, for garnish)

  • Vanilla ice cream (optional, for serving)

Instructions

  • Prepare the Caramel:
In a medium saucepan, melt the unwrapped caramels and evaporated milk over medium-low heat, stirring frequently, until smooth and fully combined. Set aside.

  • Bake the Cake:
Follow the instructions for a chocolate cake base, either from a box mix or your favorite homemade recipe. Bake the cake in a greased 9×13-inch baking pan as directed. Once baked, remove from the oven and allow it to cool slightly.

  • Make the Chocolate Topping:
In a microwave-safe bowl, melt the semisweet chocolate chips in 30-second intervals, stirring between each interval until fully melted and smooth.

  • Assemble the Cake:
Once the cake has cooled slightly, poke small holes all over the cake using a fork or skewer. Pour the warm caramel mixture evenly over the cake, allowing it to soak into the holes. Then, pour the melted chocolate over the top of the cake, spreading it evenly.

  • Add the Pecans:
Sprinkle the chopped pecans over the chocolate layer. Allow the cake to cool completely so that the chocolate and caramel set.

  • Serve:
Once the cake is cooled, drizzle with additional caramel topping, if desired. For extra indulgence, serve with a scoop of vanilla ice cream and extra chopped pecans on top.

Notes

Cake Base: You can use a store-bought chocolate cake mix for convenience, or make your own chocolate cake from scratch.

For Extra Caramel Flavor: If you love caramel, you can drizzle extra caramel topping on top before serving.

Storage: Store leftover cake in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 3 days. Refrigerate if the weather is warm.

For a Nut-Free Version: Omit the pecans and use a nut-free chocolate topping for a simpler version of the cake.
