Ingredients
Scale
For the Patty Melt
- 6 slices rye bread
- 6 tablespoons butter, softened
- 1 pound ground beef
- 3/4 teaspoon ground black pepper
- 1/2 teaspoon sea salt
- 1/4 teaspoon onion powder
- 6 slices cheddar cheese
- 6 slices provolone cheese
For the Sauce
- 3 tablespoons mayonnaise
- 2 tablespoons ketchup
- 1 tablespoon real bacon bits
- 1 teaspoon sweet relish
- 1 teaspoon white sugar
Instructions
- Prepare the Patties
In a mixing bowl, combine the ground beef, black pepper, sea salt, and onion powder. Shape the beef mixture into 6 equal-sized patties. - Cook the Patties
Heat a large skillet or griddle over medium heat and cook the patties for about 3-4 minutes on each side, or until they reach your desired level of doneness. Once cooked, set the patties aside. - Prepare the Sauce
In a small bowl, mix together the mayonnaise, ketchup, bacon bits, sweet relish, and white sugar until well combined. Set aside. - Assemble the Patty Melts
Spread 1 tablespoon of butter on one side of each slice of rye bread. Place the bread butter-side down in the skillet and toast until golden brown, about 2 minutes per side. - Add Cheese to the Patties
Place one slice of cheddar cheese and one slice of provolone cheese on each patty, allowing the cheese to melt as the bread toasts. - Assemble the Sandwiches
Spread the prepared sauce on the non-buttered side of each slice of bread. Place a cheese-topped patty on top of one slice of bread, then top with the second slice, butter-side up. - Grill the Patty Melts
Grill the assembled patty melts in the skillet, pressing down slightly, until the bread is golden and crispy and the cheese is melted, about 2-3 minutes per side. - Serve
Remove from heat and serve immediately. Cut each sandwich in half and enjoy!
