Ingredients
Scale
- 4 bone-in or boneless pork chops (about 1-inch thick)
- 1 cup freshly grated Parmesan cheese
- 1 cup breadcrumbs (or panko for extra crunch)
- 2 large eggs
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
- 1 teaspoon fresh thyme (or 1/2 teaspoon dried thyme)
- Optional: 1/2 teaspoon paprika or Italian seasoning for extra flavor
- 2 tablespoons olive oil or butter (for searing)
Instructions
- Prepare the Pork Chops:
- Pat the pork chops dry with paper towels. This helps the crust stick better. Season both sides of the pork chops with salt and pepper.
- Prepare the Breading Station:
- In one shallow bowl, beat the eggs.
- In another shallow bowl, combine the freshly grated Parmesan, breadcrumbs (or panko), garlic powder, black pepper, thyme, and any optional seasonings (paprika or Italian seasoning). Mix well.
- Bread the Pork Chops:
- Dip each pork chop into the egg, making sure it’s fully coated. Then, dredge the pork chop in the breadcrumb mixture, pressing lightly to adhere the coating. Make sure the pork chop is evenly coated on both sides.
- Sear the Pork Chops:
- Heat the olive oil or butter in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Once hot, add the pork chops and cook for 4-5 minutes per side, until the crust is golden brown and the pork is cooked through. You can also check the internal temperature with a meat thermometer—it should reach 145°F (63°C).
- Serve:
- Remove the pork chops from the skillet and let them rest for a few minutes before serving. Garnish with fresh herbs like thyme or parsley if desired.
Notes
- For a lighter version, you can bake the pork chops at 400°F (200°C) for 20-25 minutes, flipping halfway through, instead of frying.
- If you’re using thick bone-in pork chops, you may need to finish them off in the oven to ensure they cook through without burning the crust.
- Serve with mashed potatoes, steamed vegetables, or a fresh salad for a complete meal.
