Instructions

  • Preheat Oven: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour two 9-inch round cake pans or line them with parchment paper circles for easy removal.

  • Mix Dry Ingredients: In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.

  • Combine Wet Ingredients: In another bowl, whisk together the buttermilk, oil, eggs, vanilla extract, and white vinegar. Add the black food coloring to the wet ingredients and stir until fully combined.

  • Combine Wet and Dry: Gradually add the wet ingredients to the dry ingredients, mixing until just combined. Be careful not to overmix.

  • Add Hot Water or Coffee: Slowly add the hot water or coffee to the batter and stir gently until the batter is smooth and thin. This will create a wonderfully moist cake.
