Description
Warm up on a cold day with this rich and creamy homemade Hot Chocolate. Perfectly sweetened and velvety smooth, it’s the ultimate comfort drink for any occasion. Customize with your favorite toppings like whipped cream or marshmallows!
Ingredients
Scale
- 3 cups 2% milk or full-fat milk
- 1/3 to 1/2 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
- 1/3 cup sugar (or a natural granulated sweetener that measures 1:1 with sugar to save calories)
- 375 ml evaporated milk (for a richer flavor; do not use skim or light)
Instructions
- Heat the Milk
In a medium saucepan, heat the 2% or full-fat milk over medium heat until warm, but not boiling. Stir occasionally to prevent scalding. - Mix Cocoa and Sugar
In a separate bowl, whisk together the cocoa powder and sugar. Add a small amount of warm milk from the saucepan to the cocoa mixture to form a smooth paste. This helps to dissolve the cocoa and sugar evenly. - Combine the Mixtures
Gradually whisk the cocoa paste into the warm milk in the saucepan. Stir continuously until the mixture is smooth and well combined. - Add Evaporated Milk
Pour in the evaporated milk and stir to combine. Continue heating the mixture over low heat, stirring occasionally, until it’s hot but not boiling. - Serve
Pour the hot chocolate into mugs. If desired, top with whipped cream, marshmallows, or a sprinkle of cocoa powder for extra indulgence. - Enjoy!
Serve hot and enjoy this cozy treat!
Notes
- Adjust sweetness: You can increase or decrease the amount of sugar to suit your taste preferences.
- Dairy-free option: Use non-dairy milk such as almond or oat milk and a dairy-free sweetened condensed milk alternative to make it vegan-friendly.
