  • Total Time: 30 minutes (plus cooling time)
  • Yield: 12-16 squares 1x

Description

Sweet, chewy, and full of flavor, Jelly Nougat Candy is a delightful treat made with a fluffy egg white base, mixed with chopped nuts, dried fruit, and a touch of vanilla. This homemade candy offers a perfect balance of sweetness and texture, dusted with powdered sugar for an extra touch of magic.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 cups sugar
  • 1/2 cup light corn syrup
  • 1/2 cup water
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 2 egg whites
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/2 cup chopped nuts
  • 1/2 cup chopped dried fruit
  • Powdered sugar, for dusting

Instructions

  • In a saucepan, combine sugar, corn syrup, water, and salt. Cook over medium heat, stirring occasionally, until the mixture reaches 280°F (soft-crack stage).
  • While the sugar mixture is heating, beat the egg whites in a separate bowl until stiff peaks form.
  • Slowly pour the hot sugar mixture into the egg whites while beating constantly, making sure to do this carefully to avoid curdling the mixture.
  • Once combined, add the vanilla extract, chopped nuts, and dried fruit. Stir gently to mix.
  • Pour the nougat mixture into a greased pan and spread evenly. Allow it to cool to room temperature.
  • Once cooled, cut into squares and dust with powdered sugar to prevent sticking.

Notes

  • Ensure the sugar mixture reaches the correct temperature (280°F) to achieve the proper texture for the nougat.
  • You can use any combination of nuts and dried fruit, such as almonds, pistachios, raisins, or cranberries, to customize the flavor.
  • Store the nougat in an airtight container to keep it fresh.
