  • Author: Sarah
  • Total Time: 1 hour 10 minutes
  • Yield: 8 servings 1x

Description

A hearty, comforting lasagna layered with a rich Bolognese meat sauce, creamy ricotta cheese, and gooey mozzarella. This classic Italian dish is perfect for feeding a crowd or enjoying for a cozy family dinner.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 1 onion, chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 can (14.5 oz) crushed tomatoes
  • 1 can (15 oz) tomato sauce
  • 1 tsp dried basil
  • 1 tsp dried oregano
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 1 package lasagna noodles
  • 3 cups ricotta cheese
  • 2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 1 cup grated Parmesan cheese

Instructions

  • Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
  • In a large skillet, cook the ground beef over medium heat until browned. Add the chopped onion and minced garlic, cooking until the onion becomes translucent.
  • Stir in the crushed tomatoes, tomato sauce, dried basil, dried oregano, salt, and pepper. Simmer for 10 minutes to allow the flavors to meld.
  • In a separate bowl, combine the ricotta cheese, shredded mozzarella, and grated Parmesan. Stir until well combined.
  • To assemble the lasagna, spread a layer of the meat sauce at the bottom of a baking dish. Then, layer with lasagna noodles, followed by a layer of the cheese mixture. Repeat the layers until all ingredients are used, making sure to finish with a layer of meat sauce on top.
  • Cover the dish with aluminum foil and bake for 25 minutes. After 25 minutes, remove the foil and bake for an additional 25 minutes, until the top is golden and the lasagna is bubbly.
  • Let the lasagna stand for 10 minutes before cutting and serving. This allows the layers to set for easier slicing.

Notes

  • You can substitute the ground beef with ground turkey for a leaner version.
  • For added richness, stir in a little heavy cream into the meat sauce before layering.
  • Feel free to add vegetables like spinach or mushrooms to the sauce for extra flavor and nutrition.
