- 1/2 cup powdered sugar
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 2 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
- 3/4 cup finely chopped nuts (such as walnuts, pecans, or almonds)
- Additional powdered sugar (for rolling)
Instructions
- In a mixing bowl, cream together the butter and powdered sugar until light and fluffy.
- Add the salt, vanilla extract, and flour to the mixture, and mix until well combined.
- Stir in the chopped nuts until evenly distributed.
- Shape the dough into 1-inch balls and place them on ungreased baking sheets.
- Bake at 400°F (200°C) for 10-12 minutes, or until the cookies are set but not brown.
- While still warm, roll the cookies in additional powdered sugar to coat them completely.
- Let the cookies cool on wire racks before storing in an airtight container.
Notes
- Feel free to use your preferred nuts; pecans or walnuts are especially popular in this recipe.
- Be careful not to overbake the cookies, as they should not brown. They should remain pale and soft.
- If you prefer a sweeter finish, you can roll the cookies in powdered sugar a second time once they’ve cooled.
