Ingredients

Scale

Spiced Apples:

  • 6 Golden Delicious apples, peeled and chopped (other apple varieties can be used, or sliced)
  • 2 Tbsp granulated sugar
  • 3/4 tsp ground cinnamon
  • 1 1/2 tsp lemon juice

Crisp Topping:

  • 1 cup light brown sugar
  • 3/4 cup old-fashioned oats (quick oats can be used, but the texture will differ slightly)
  • 3/4 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 tsp ground cinnamon
  • Pinch of kosher salt
  • 1/2 cup cold unsalted butter, diced into small cubes

Instructions

  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  • In a large bowl, combine the peeled and chopped apples with granulated sugar, cinnamon, and lemon juice. Stir until well-coated.
  • Transfer the apple mixture into a greased 9×9-inch baking dish or a similar-sized dish.
  • For the topping: In a separate bowl, combine the brown sugar, oats, flour, cinnamon, and a pinch of salt. Add the cold butter cubes and use a pastry cutter or your fingers to work the butter into the dry ingredients until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
  • Evenly sprinkle the topping over the apples.
  • Bake for 40-45 minutes, or until the topping is golden brown and the apples are bubbling.

  • Let it cool slightly before serving.

Notes

  • Serve with a scoop of vanilla ice cream or a dollop of whipped cream for extra indulgence.
  • Feel free to use any other variety of apples such as Granny Smith or Honeycrisp for a different flavor profile.

  • For a more nutty flavor, you can add chopped nuts (like walnuts or pecans) to the topping.
