  • Author: Sarah
  • Total Time: 20-22 minutes
  • Yield: 6-8 donuts (depending on the size of the pan) 1x

Description

These light and fluffy Vanilla Glazed Baked Donuts are the perfect treat for breakfast or a sweet snack. The simple yet delicious vanilla glaze adds a smooth and sweet finish to the soft, tender donuts. A healthier alternative to fried donuts, baked donuts are just as satisfying and super easy to make!

Ingredients

Scale

For the Donuts:

  • 1 cup (120g) all-purpose flour

  • 1/3 cup (70g) granulated sugar

  • 1 teaspoon baking powder

  • 1/2 teaspoon salt

  • 2 tablespoons (28g) unsalted butter, melted

  • 1 egg (at room temperature)

  • 1/3 cup + 1 1/2 tablespoons (100ml) skim milk (at room temperature)

  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

For the Vanilla Glaze:

  • 1/2 cup (80g) powdered sugar, sifted

  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract

  • 1 small pinch of salt

  • 1 or 2 tablespoons milk (adjust for desired glaze thickness)

  • Optional: Food coloring and sprinkles

Instructions

  1. Preheat the Oven: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Lightly grease a donut pan or use a non-stick donut pan.

  2. Prepare the Donut Batter: In a medium bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour, granulated sugar, baking powder, and salt.

  3. Mix Wet Ingredients: In another bowl, whisk the melted butter, egg, skim milk, and vanilla extract until combined.

  4. Combine the Ingredients: Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and stir until just combined. Be careful not to overmix.

  5. Fill the Donut Pan: Spoon the batter into the donut pan, filling each cavity about 2/3 full. You can use a piping bag or a Ziploc bag with the tip cut off for a cleaner fill.

  6. Bake: Bake the donuts for 10-12 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean. Let the donuts cool in the pan for about 5 minutes before transferring to a wire rack to cool completely.

  7. Prepare the Vanilla Glaze: In a small bowl, whisk together the sifted powdered sugar, vanilla extract, salt, and 1 tablespoon of milk. Adjust the milk until you achieve your desired glaze consistency. If you want a thicker glaze, use less milk; for a thinner glaze, add more milk.

  8. Glaze the Donuts: Once the donuts are completely cool, dip the top of each donut into the vanilla glaze, letting the excess drip off. If desired, add food coloring and sprinkles for extra fun.

  9. Serve: Allow the glaze to set for a few minutes before serving.

Notes

  • For a lighter donut, you can substitute the skim milk with almond milk or oat milk.

  • If you prefer a richer donut, try adding 1-2 tablespoons of sour cream or Greek yogurt to the batter for extra moisture.

  • The donuts are best enjoyed the day they’re made but can be stored in an airtight container for up to 2 days.
